This is not your typical photography workshop—it’s a fully immersive desert expedition.
Dates: March 7–12, 2027
Limited to 5 Guests
Cost: $2,995.00
Location: Start in Las Vegas & End in Las Vegas
The Death Valley & Beyond Overlanding Adventure is designed for photographers who want to go far beyond the roadside and into the remote, rarely experienced corners of the desert Southwest. Limited to just five participants, this small-group experience blends exploration, creativity, and connection in a way that simply isn’t possible in a traditional workshop setting.
Participants will either bring their own 4x4 overlanding vehicle or rent a fully equipped rig (Toyota 4Runner or similar) in Las Vegas through TAC Rentals. From there, we venture deep into the backcountry—traveling rugged desert tracks and accessing locations that most photographers will never see.

What makes this experience truly special is how we live in these landscapes.
Rather than commuting in and out each day, we’ll be camping in remote regions throughout the workshop—placing ourselves exactly where we need to be for the best light, and allowing for a deeper, uninterrupted connection to the desert. Evenings become just as meaningful as the photography itself, as we gather around campfires, share meals, and exchange stories under some of the darkest, most star-filled skies in the country.
This is where the desert slows you down—and opens you up creatively.
Over six days, we’ll explore an incredible range of landscapes, including the mysterious moving stones of the Racetrack Playa, the towering and seldom-visited Eureka Dunes, the sculpted beauty of the Ibex Dunes, remote Joshua Tree forests far from the crowds, and the iconic textures of the Alabama Hills. Along the way, we’ll seek out lesser-known locations, hidden compositions, and fleeting moments of light that transform these environments into something extraordinary.
Our days are shaped by light and conditions. Expect early mornings, extended golden hours, and the flexibility to move and adapt based on weather and opportunity. Midday downtime allows for rest, image review, and relaxed discussions around composition, vision, and creative approach.
This workshop is about more than just capturing images—it’s about learning to truly see. We’ll work on simplifying complex desert scenes, identifying patterns and design, and using light and scale to create powerful, intentional photographs. Whether you’re drawn to intimate abstracts or expansive landscapes, we’ll help you refine your vision and push your creative boundaries.
Because of the remote nature of this experience, a spirit of adventure is essential. We’ll be traveling far off the beaten path, often without services—fully immersed in the landscape and the moment.
If you’re looking for a workshop that offers not just incredible photography, but a deeper connection—to the land, to your craft, and to a small group of like-minded photographers—this is it.

Overlanding Vehicle Rentals & What to Expect
Overlanding vehicle rental cost is often cheaper than car rental and hotel accomodations.
To fully experience the remote landscapes we’ll be exploring, each participant will need a capable 4x4 overlanding vehicle. You’re welcome to bring your own rig, or we highly recommend renting a fully equipped vehicle through TAC Rentals.
These are not standard rental vehicles—they are purpose-built adventure platforms designed specifically for remote travel and off-grid living.
Their fleet of Toyota 4Runners (and similar vehicles) are fully outfitted for backcountry exploration, allowing you to focus entirely on the experience without worrying about gear, logistics, or setup.
Fully Equipped for the Backcountry
Each vehicle comes as a complete, turnkey overlanding system—meaning everything you need for the week is already built in and organized.
You’ll have:
- A rooftop tent with a comfortable built-in mattress, providing a quick and easy sleeping setup elevated above the ground
- A 270-degree awning for shade and shelter at camp
- A custom drawer system with a pull-out table for cooking and gear organization
- An auxiliary battery system to power an onboard electric fridge (no ice, no hassle)
This setup allows you to arrive at camp, deploy your tent in minutes, and settle in without the usual complications of traditional camping.

Every rig is also equipped with a full camp kitchen and dining setup, including:
- Two-burner stove and fuel
- Pots, pans, utensils, and a full dishware kit
- French press for coffee at sunrise
- Water storage and cooking essentials
- Camp chairs, table, and lighting
Everything is thoughtfully packed and ready to go—down to the small details—so you can focus on photographing, exploring, and enjoying the experience.

- Maps and navigation support
This added layer of preparation allows us to confidently explore deeper into the landscape while maintaining a strong safety margin.

These vehicles are specifically designed for off-road travel, featuring:
- True 4WD capability (2WD, 4Hi, 4Lo)
- Lifted suspension for added clearance
- Aggressive all-terrain tires
- Proven reliability in rugged environments
In short—they’re built to take you places a standard vehicle simply cannot go.
Sample Itinerary
Death Valley & Beyond Overlanding Adventure
March 7–12, 2027
This itinerary is designed to maximize time in the field while allowing for flexibility based on weather, light, and conditions. Each day builds on the last as we move deeper into the desert.
Day 1 – Arrival & Into the Desert (Las Vegas → Ibex Dunes)
We’ll meet in Las Vegas in the morning to go over final logistics, vehicle setups, and gear organization. From there, we head straight into the desert, making our way toward the southern reaches of Death Valley National Park.
Our first destination is the beautifully sculpted Ibex Dunes—a perfect introduction to the workshop and an ideal first stop given its proximity to Vegas.
We’ll photograph sunset in the dunes, focusing on clean compositions, light, and shadow. Afterward, we establish our first remote camp—sharing a meal and settling into the rhythm of life in the desert.
Day 2 – Into the Heart of Death Valley (Remote Overlooks & Backcountry)
We break camp and push deeper into the park, moving into more remote terrain and away from the more traveled areas.
Today is about exploration. We’ll work a series of lesser-known overlooks and backcountry locations—places that offer expansive views, layered geology, and incredible opportunities for light and atmosphere. This is where we begin to slow down and really refine our vision.
Sunrise and sunset sessions will anchor the day, with time in between to rest, review images, and discuss creative approach. Camp will be set in a quiet, carefully chosen location deep within the park.
Day 3 – The Racetrack Playa
We venture farther into the backcountry to reach the legendary Racetrack Playa.
This is one of the most unique photographic locations in North America. Here, we’ll focus on minimalist design, leading lines, and the mysterious “sailing stones” that define the playa.
We’ll photograph through both morning and evening light, exploring a variety of compositions and perspectives. Another night is spent camping under dark desert skies.
Day 4 – Eureka Dunes
We continue north to the remote and awe-inspiring Eureka Dunes—the tallest dunes in California.
This is a day of scale, texture, and creative exploration. We’ll work both intimate abstracts and sweeping compositions as light and shadow carve through the dunes. The sense of isolation here is unmatched.
We’ll camp nearby, fully immersed in one of the most spectacular and least-visited regions of the park.
Day 5 – Alabama Hills
Leaving Death Valley, we make our way toward the iconic Alabama Hills.
This landscape offers a dramatic contrast—rounded rock formations, natural arches, and expansive views toward the Sierra Nevada. We’ll focus on composition, framing, and storytelling as we work this incredibly photogenic area.
We’ll enjoy our final sunset together here, followed by one last evening of shared food, conversation, and reflection around camp.
Day 6 – Sunrise & Return to Las Vegas
We’ll head out for a final sunrise session in the Alabama Hills before beginning the journey back to Las Vegas.
Arrival is planned for mid-day, giving you ample time for departures or an additional night in the city if needed.
A Note on Flexibility
This is an adventure-based workshop, and flexibility is key. While this itinerary provides a strong framework, we will adapt as needed based on weather, road conditions, and photographic opportunities—ensuring we’re always in the best possible place for the best light.
