Fire on the Rim, Terry Badlands

Montana

Photographed in Montana’s Terry Badlands, this image captures the landscape at its most dramatic and ephemeral — the final light of day sweeping across the rim and setting the buttes ablaze in molten tones of red and gold. I remember standing there as the earth seemed to catch fire, each ridge and eroded wall illuminated for only a moment before the sun slipped beneath the horizon.

The Terry Badlands hold a raw, untamed energy — a place where wind and water have sculpted forms both delicate and monumental. Fire on the Rim reflects the essence of that balance — timeless stone momentarily transformed by light. It is an image about endurance and impermanence, a dialogue between geologic time and human experience.

Each limited-edition print is crafted with museum-grade archival pigment inks on fine cotton rag paper for the highest tonal depth and longevity. Also available as metal prints and acrylic glass face mounts, every edition is signed and numbered, offering collectors a piece that celebrates the enduring artistry of the American landscape.

This work is part of my fine art series The American Serengeti – Prairie and Badlands, a body of work exploring the sculpted terrains, vast skies, and quiet power of the Great Plains and high desert West.
