This image was made in the badlands country near the Yellowstone River in eastern Montana, just as twilight began to settle over the land. The soft glow of post-sunset light painted the clay hills in shades of lavender and rose, revealing the rhythmic folds and textures carved by centuries of wind and rain.
I remember the stillness that evening — the wind had dropped, and only the faint call of meadowlarks echoed across the canyons. It was one of those moments where the vastness of the plains met the intimacy of detail, where light transformed an austere landscape into something almost tender.
Evening Calm reflects my ongoing fascination with the subtle moods of the prairie and badlands — places that change not by the hour but by the breath of light. It’s a meditation on solitude, quiet transformation, and the enduring presence of natural form.
