The Experience
This is a six-day immersive workshop built around both fieldwork and creative refinement.
Each day is structured to maximize both:
Morning
- Sunrise / early light field session
- Waterfalls, streams, forest scenes, and atmospheric conditions
Midday
- Rest and reset
- Classroom instruction and image development
Afternoon / Evening
- Late-day field session
- Composition refinement and creative exploration
Daily Instruction & Creative Development
Each day includes dedicated class sessions focused on:
- Composition and visual design
- Working with soft light, fog, and atmosphere
- Developing a cohesive body of work
- Advanced post-processing techniques

Workshop Location
This workshop is based in Townsend, often referred to as the “quiet side” of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Townsend offers:
- Quick access to some of the park’s most photogenic locations
- Fewer crowds than other areas of the Smokies
- A relaxed, focused environment ideal for photography
Lodging & Classroom Location
We will be staying at the
Highland Manor Inn & Conference Center
This location serves as both:
- Our base for the workshop
- The classroom space for all midday sessions

Daily Workflow
Each day is structured for both creativity and comfort:

- Field session (sunrise and early light)
Midday
- Return to the Highland Manor Inn

- Field session focused on late light and atmosphere
This rhythm allows you to stay energized while maximizing photographic opportunities.
Meals
Meals are not included.
However:
- Townsend has several convenient dining options
- We will recommend reliable local restaurants
- Group dinners are often organized for those who wish to join
