The Experience
Each autumn, the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado transform into one of the most spectacular displays of color and light anywhere in North America. Golden aspen groves cascade down rugged mountainsides, winding alpine roads lead to breathtaking overlooks, and early season storms can add a dramatic edge to an already extraordinary landscape.
Based out of the mountain town of Ouray, this small-group photography workshop is designed to fully immerse you in the region at the peak of fall color. We’ll explore a carefully curated selection of locations throughout the San Juans—ranging from quiet aspen-lined valleys and reflective lakes to high alpine vistas accessed via scenic mountain roads.
With a strong emphasis on composition, light, and creative vision, this workshop goes beyond simply visiting beautiful places. You’ll learn how to interpret the landscape, simplify complex scenes, and create compelling, portfolio-worthy images that reflect both the grandeur and subtlety of the season.
