Stillness Beneath the Surface explores the fragile boundary between form and abstraction in the desert. What first appears to be an expressive painting is in fact a natural composition — a fallen leaf preserved beneath a thin veil of ice, layered with mineral stains, sand, and water-borne color. The surface becomes a living canvas where winter, desert, and time collaborate.
Captured in the American Southwest, this image reveals how the desert holds memory: pigment-like blues and violets drift across the frame, while delicate fractures and textures trace the passage of cold and thaw. Every creative decision was carefully considered, from conception, composition and exposure, to processing and printing. I make my prints using a specialized large format printer with the highest quality archival inks and paper rated to last 250 years.
