Join myself and well-known, Montana-based, rodeo and western lifestyle photographer Mark LaRowe for a unique western experience on a working cowboy ranch in scenic Westcliffe, Colorado. Over the course of four days, we will be photographing running horses, cowboys, rustic barns & homesteads, streams & wild grasses all set against the majestic Sangre De Cristo Mountains in the lush and beautiful Wet Mountain Valley.
You will also have access to an authentic western ranch on 4,000 acres of beautiful range lands.
An Authentic Western Ranch Experience
The Ranch is located in Westcliffe, Colorado at the base of the breathtaking Sangre de Cristo Mountain range. It is owned by the Parker Family and offers an incomparable hands-on Colorado working ranch experience!
Enjoy photographing horses, cattle, rustic barns & homesteads all set against the stunning scenery of the Colorado Mountains.
Photography Workshop Schedule
On Friday, we will kickoff the workshop at 2:00PM at the hotel with an introduction followed by a classroom session on light, composition & techniques for capturing unique western images. We will have dinner at a local restaurant in Westcliffe before heading out to shooting sunset in the valley.
On Saturday, we will be up well before and ready to capture sunrise and early morning light on one of Colorado's most scenic working cowboy ranches. After a few hours of photography, we will break and get back together mid afternoon for a classroom session discussing techniques for capturing horses in action as well as western images and landscapes. After class, we will once again head back to the ranch for late afternoon/sunset light with the cowboys and horses.
On Sunday morning we will be back at the ranch again photographing cowboys and horses at sunrise. After sunrise we will spend several hours exploring the ranch and capturing stunning images. In the afternoon, we will be back in class again to go over post processing in both Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. That evening we will have a group dinner in Westcliffe before heading out to photograph barns set against the stunning Sangre De Cristo Mountains.
On Monday morning, the final morning of our time together, we will rise early and be out again for a last sunrise in the valley. The workshop will conclude back at the hotel no later than 9am.

Vision & Focus
Joe & Mark will focus on learning to “see” photography in new ways; unlocking creativity in situations that require conceptual and compositional ingenuity. In addition to composition and creative vision, we will discuss the best use of light and subject matter to create a memorable and publishable image.
During post processing sessions they will focus on teaching a logical, effective workflow that ensures the highest quality for your work, as well an image archive that is stable, consistent, and retrievable over the long term, and that ultimately liberates rather than burdens. We will cover step by step the process from shooting RAW files in the field to optimizing the final image in Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop.
