West Virginia Autumn Photo Tour/Workshop

West Virginia holds a secret: its mountains rival New England in tapestries of red, orange, gold, green and blue. And there is no other finer spot in all of West Virginia in the fall than the Monongahela National Forest. This is an amazing place for nature and landscape photography in any season, but in autumn it is truly awesome. From the fiery red covered heath barrens of Bear Rocks and Dolly Sods to swirling leaves in plunge pools of mighty waterfalls, this area is by far the mid-Atlantic’s best kept autumn secret. Let me take you on a journey to some of the best spots in the Monongahela for classic autumn color hot spots.

Workshop begins at noon on October 4th with a two-hour opening meet and greet and classroom presentation. On the 5 – 7, we will be in the field all day from sunrise until sunset with 2 hour classroom sessions either in the middle of the day or in the evening. The workshop officially concludes after a sunrise shoot on the 8th.

Joseph will teach a variety of techniques—both in the field and in the classroom—that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help you create dramatic and powerful nature images, including:

• Working with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset;
• The fundamentals of powerful compositions; and
• Abstract techniques for creating artistic photographs.
