Valley of Fire Instructional Photo Tour/Workshop

The photo tour begins at noon om February 26 with an introductory slide show and presentation on field techniques. In the opening classroom, we will cover many fundamentals from how to properly read and evaluate your histogram to advance compositional disciplines and much, much more. After that, it off to the park to spend time getting to know the location in advance of our sunset shoot. After we finish sunset, we will return to Overton and have dinner together as a group.

The next morning we kick things off with a sunrise shoot in the park. We will plan on being in the field for as long as the light is conductive for great photography in the morning. Then in the afternoon, we will get together for a two-hour classroom discussing RAW developing and management of digital files. Once again, we will be back in the park for afternoon shoots and sunset. Tonight if the conditions are right we will stay out for some nighttime star photography and light painting. The next day is largely the same, but in today’s class we dive into Joe’s Photoshop workflow and discuss layers, masks and adjustments.  In the evening, we will either spend time in the field shooting more starscapes, or in class discussing images from the previous shoots.

On Wednesday, the field work is the same schedule, but in today’s classroom we will help everyone prepare five of their best image from the workshop for our critique session on this nights last evening of the tour. On the last morning we will conclude the workshop/tour after a morning sunrise session and breakfast as a group.
