Storm Surge, Acadia National Park

storm-surge

It’s always a good idea to be out in the field when the weather is not cooperating. On this June morning in Acadia National Park, getting out in the field was a real chore for me. I was feeling awful with a chest cold and it had rained almost constantly for three days. Each morning leading up to this shot, I was down on the coast waiting in the rain for the light to break. It never did on those previous days and when I awoke in the wee hours of the night, I had very little motivation once I realized it was still raining. It would have been very easy to simply crawl back into the covers and get some much needed rest, but I drug my butt out of bed and made my way down to a spot I had scouted on a previous day. As the sunrise approached the sky began to clear just a bit to the east and all of a sudden the light went off in a big way. It was raining on me as I shot this image and I thanked myself for not missing this morning. As quickly as the light appeared it disappeared only moments later and it was back to rain again all morning. I treated myself to a long nap dreaming of what the rest of the trip had in store for me. I’ll take many days of bad weather for just one chance to get light like this!
