Looking Glen Leigh
This past weekend I spent some time in Ricketts Glen State Park, one of the premier locations ion the US for waterfall photography. The conditions this spring are epic in the park with an amazing flow, vibrant spring greens. flowering tree’s and a remarkably clean stream free of debris! I hiked all day Saturday shooting in some challenging conditions from pouring down rain to bright sunshine. On Sunday I led a workshop down into the falls and it was a great group to work with.
The images here represent my favorites from the weekend. If you have a chance to get away and want to shoot some amazing waterfalls and streams, go to Ricketts ASAP while the conditions are still prime. In other news, I image and brief write up on shooting in Rocky Mountain National Park was published in this months addition of Outdoor Photographer Magazine along with a few other well know and celebrated professional nature photographers. If you get the magazine great, but if not here is a link to the article online – http://www.outdoorphotographer.com/how-to/shooting/pro-tips-for-summer-hot-spots.htmlI. ‘ll do my best to share some new work and field reports over the next couple of weeks while I am in the Pacific Northwest, but I will be camping the majority of the time and will have very limited cell and Internet reception. I hope you enjoy these images, thanks for stopping by and please feel free to leave a comment or share this post!

These image represent the last 45 days of shooting. I have travelled far and wide and have missed my family greatly. I am now at home getting caught up on work, processing and trip planning for this summer and beyond. I am enjoying the opportunity to get some much needed rest and quality time with the family. I leave next week for an extended trip to the Pacific Northwest where I will be running two workshops and shooting with good friend and fellow landscape photographer Alex Mody. Stay tuned for more work in the near future!

I took advantage of the wet and overcast weather we have been experiencing lately and made a day trip to the Catoctin Mountain region of central Maryland today. Streams and forest scenics was on the itinerary and the lush greens and rushing waters of the many streams, creeks and rivers of the region did not disappoint. I spent most of my day driving around, having not shot here much before, I had a fair amount of scouting to do before I found the locations I wanted to shoot.
The image below is from along Owens Creek which runs parallel to RT. 550 on the eastern side of the mountains. I was immediately drawn to the shot for the shape of the foreground cascades and the vibrant green foliage in the background. I waded into the stream to get the perspective I did for this shot being very careful not to slip and dip my camera equipment in the drink. I experimented with several ISO/Shutter Speed combinations, but settled on a setting of 1/4 of a second at ISO 320 in order to maintain the right amount of clarity in the foreground water (too long of a shutter speed and it just was too much motion for my liking). As always when shooting water and wet scenes, I used a circular polarizer to cut the glare from the wet rocks and leaves rendering a rich contrast and excellent color saturation.
Later this week I’m off to the Allegheny Mountains for a workshop and several days of shooting spring landscapes. Stay in tune for new images and field reports!

I am back home after 8 days of shooting on the Plateau and Navajo lands of northern Arizona. The weather was mostly bright and sunny, so I focused a good deal of my energy on shooting slot canyons. A few evenings and morning did however provide some incredible clouds and light. More to come as I work through processing the images this week.

I am parting ways with my Nikon 12-24mm Ultra Wide Angle. This lens was a back-up to my field 12-24mm and was only used on five occasions and is thus Like New with no brassing, scratches and perfect glass. It is practically out of the box, but since I no longer shoot with a crop sensor camera I just don’t have any use for it any longer. It sells new for 999.00 on B&H and 1099,.00 on Adorama.
I am looking to get 875.00 for it, but will consider offers no less than 825.00. I will include shipping for free to any where in the continental US. International shipping must be paid by the buyer. If anyone is interested in this lens, please email me at rossbachphoto@gmail.com.

I am very excited to announce that I will be back in Colorado in late July. In addition to personal backpacking and shooting planned for the Indian Peaks Wilderness, we have scheduled a four day workshop to take place in Rocky Mountain National Park & the Indian Peaks. This is a great time of the year to photograph the mountains as summer brings pleasant temperatures, the alpine lakes are free of ice and wildflowers are in bloom in the mountains. In addition to that, the monsoon season brings dramatic weather and clouds making dramatic landscape photography all the better.
